Guilds and Sponsors
All the Guilds and Sponsors of the Protectorate are obliged to provide auxiliaries
for Corwyn's Legion and it is almost always where the Player Characters are taken
from when required or needed for duties and missions.
The Legion |
| |
The Legions are the primary defensive force of the Protectorate. Each province
of the Protectorate is responsible for the raising and maintenance
of a cohort. Corwyn's Legion is the second Legion, with a largley excellent
reputation, which is based within Deepfell. |

Dark Temple |
 |
The Dark Temple represents an alliance of Evil Power-users who are united
in their support of the independence of the Protectorate. They differ to
other groups in that they believe that the protection of the Protectorate
should be extended to nearby states by force of arms and the right of might.
It is the doctrine of the Dark Temple that the Good Sphere promotes softness
and weakness, for this reason they take all opportunities to oppose it.
In recent years the Dark Temple has seen the need to establish a group of
warriors particularly devoted to their purposes. To this end they have created
the Black Guard, a group dedicated to the security and purposes of the Dark
Temple.

Mistwalkers |
| |
This guild is one of the largest and most influential organisations in
the Protectorate. It has firm associations with almost all the other regular
organisations in the Protectorate and has access to the largest range of
skills of all guilds because of this.
Despite its size however the Mistwalkers is a fairly easy-going organisation
and demands little from its membership except loyalty.

Wise Ones |
| |
The Wise Ones represent one of the oldest spiritual groups of the Protectorate.
They resent the intrusion of the Hand of Good and the Dark Temple but find
themselves with the responsibility of maintaining the Balance and the balance
of power in the Protectorate. It remains the largest and most influential
of the three groups.
It takes its name from the conclave of its high priests who meet regularly
to discuss maters in a balanced manner. The Wise Ones believe that the Protectorate
would benefit from being a more unified, regulated state. It would be better
suited, they argue, to resist the influences of other states on a military,
spiritual, financial and political basis. It is commonly believed that they
see the way forward in the Protectorate as making it a theocratic state
under their control. In the short term however they are seen to be firmly
and squarely behind the ruling members of the protectorate.

Hand of Good |
 |
The major representation of the Good Sphere in the Protectorate was founded
by missionaries from the Dreamlands some centuries ago. Although connections
with their founders remain very strong the Hand of Good in the Protectorate
is in fact an autonomous organisation despite the accusations of other groups
and individuals who think the Dreamlands still have too much influence in
Protectorate politics.
The Hand of Good is dedicated to making themselves the primary spiritual
group of the Protectorate. Their general aim is to defeat or thwart those
groups aligned with the Evil Sphere who do not have the best interests of
the Protectorate at heart. It is largely believed that they will only be
satisfied when they have effectively marginalized those groups aligned to
the Neutral Sphere.

Fellowship of the Sword |
| |
The Fellowship of the Sword was founded as a warrior brotherhood
by individuals serving as bodyguards or caravan escorts for merchants in
the Iron League. It has since expanded into other countries and grown into
a society capable of sponsoring and training warriors. The fellowship of
the sword could be considered the second military force of the Protectorate
considering there size and organisation. |

The University |
| |
Based
in Enchantica this powerful cabal of arch-sorcerers has made it their mission
to encourage the spread of magic-using. Originally based around a
simple academic establishment as the University's magical power has increased
so has its temporal influence. The University used to have massive influence in Enchantica,
a place well known for the all-pervading magic that effects that land and
all that live there. They have established faculties in all the major states
on the continent and established alliances that facilitate the spread of
magical knowledge, although recent events involving the arch- sorcerer who
attempted to lay waste to several countries has brought their establishment
into disrepute.
It is the stated opinion of the Deans of the University that they believe
that magic is the single most important force in the World of Eden and it,
and its practitioners, should be treated with corresponding respect. The
opponents of the University accuse it of having a long-term goal of a world
magogracy. They further claim that the sorcerers of the University would
like nothing more than to remake the whole world along the lines of Enchantica,
which was recently proven to be a sound statement after the events surrounding
the rise and fall of Razlan Infernes pyromancer and arch-sorcerer.
In the Protectorate the University’s local establishment use to be
based in the Cave of Wonders, it has since moved to a new grounds near Shadyvale
keep, and it has established a full faculty that teach all the common colours
of magic. They have allied themselves with the local secular authorities
and have made alliances with the most important temple factions. They are
however politically active, using their influence to encourage the appointment
of wizards and sorcerer's to important positions.
